Whimsy is the New Creative Aspect to Be! By Elizabeth Geyer
This is the annual late fall to early winter season…a time to hunker down and sit with a warm beverage, take out the year’s experiences, and reflect. The question in our minds, here at The Language of Consciousness Institute to sit with in looking back, and looking forward is : What aspects of your being have you been being? What aspects of your being might you wish to carry forward into this new year approaching, and which aspects do you crave to Be going forward?
One of the aspects of my own being that I treasure dearly is the whimsical aspect of Being. This sweet little Being who is pictured here, came into Being this season through Barbara, an Austrian Journal Youtuber, and Luise Heinzl, also a journal Youtuber. These two women have created a whole world of being and creating around this little guy named Ephy. The project they are filming on Your Tube this season is called ‘Dephemerember’, and it is based around creating colorful and whimsical journals to document the December season, using Ephy as the ‘Spokes’Being’. The women also create ephemera that is multi-digital, and is so creative, using different art mediums. I am particularly attracted to Ephy because he is so multi-talented, adorable and joyful to look at. His creators are also so much fun to watch as they create this whimsical world. You can enjoy this whimsical world here: https://youtu.be/YvgE3Re1JGY?si=eHH7zvYHc0MsMz78
Ephy loves just ‘Being’. He so epitomizes this aspect of my Being, that loves to create and play, and be in his/Our own world of curiosity and joy. This aspect of our Being is so very needed right now. We have lost this sweet side of us to some hard times…something to reflect upon and then shift as we perceive that this is an aspect of life that is paradise, and that can give us such rich experiences if we choose to bring it out to play/Be!
I see that this whimsical aspect of my Being has mostly taken a backseat, given the events of the last month. Grief can take the whimsy right out of you, I tell you! And skipping merrily in the background of my life have been the whimsical creatures I so love, showing themselves in times of deep sadness, to lighten my day. Part of this whimsical team is another gnome named Willard, whom my beloved friend Beryl gave to me this past July. Willard has played an important role in many activities, some not so fun. Yet there he is, in all of his glory, blue wings, pink hat, and all!

I know many of us struggle with aspects of our Being that are whimsical. Some of the voices in our minds, or voices of others tell us these aspects are part of our childhood and should be left behind because, “We should all grow up!”. Wow…isn’t this sad? Here is a ‘should’ that I am going to throw my Christmas pillows at and show it the door. Thank you oh so much, and going forward into 2024, I am going to bring out this whimsical side even more. Why? Because…it is really a high intelligence aspect of Being. I mean, these grown women created a whole new world around little Ephy…how brave of them…right?!!! We need to be brave now. These highly intelligent creative aspects of Being…they need to be safe to come out now! (This makes me think of The Wizard of Oz…the part where the Munchkins came out after the Wicked Witch succumbed to Dorothy’s house…what a way to go!) Take out your telescopes…look at the whimsical side of you…who might you Be when you become brave enough to let your whimsy shine!
Our whimsy can look very different from what I am describing. Perhaps your whimsy shines in your cooking…maybe you like to cook alphabet soup and then see how many words you can make in your bowl. Or maybe you create the most colorful and detailed gingerbread boy or girl. (My niece Maddie won the Instagram best gingerbread person award this year!) Or perhaps you create lawn figures, like I observed on Facebook, a woman I know created these for her lawn. Perhaps you like to create Mickey Mouse pancakes…that is whimsy! Or maybe you create whimsical creatures on some computer program? Hey…you might love to carve soap…or play with Legos and create a pretty seasonal scene. Or…perhaps you take pictures of winter scenes. There are so many ways to be whimsical. Raise your hands if you have ever sprayed a happy face on your bathroom mirror while cleaning. Come on…fess up! There must be something you create that brings out the eye twinkles!
Given the time of year, I am reflecting on whimsy and seeing how I might open up into more of it in my life. What aspect of your Being might you want to open up into in 2024?
